March 1st is Peanut Butter Lover’s Day!

Peanut Butter....it doesn't matter if it's smooth or chunky, in  candy or cookies- it's yummy!

In fact, I'll bet it's a favorite amongst most kids- second only to hot-dogs!

Did you know that March 1st is Peanut Butter lover's day?

Peanuts have been used since as early as 950 B.C. and originated in South America. Early explorers introduced peanuts to Africa and from there they traveled by trade into Spain.

They were then introduced to the American colonies. The first commercial peanut crop was grown in North Carolina beginning around 1818.

According to the Corn Products Company, an unknown doctor invented peanut butter in 1890 and a Dr. Ambrose Straub of St. Louis patented a peanut butter-making machine in 1903.

Since those times, peanut butter has become a favorite ingredient in candy, cookies and is the"P" in P B & J sandwiches, an old favorite.

But did you now that peanut butter has several are non- food related purposes?

1. Peanut Butter can be used as a lubricant. Need to grease something on your bike or the family car?  Try a smidgen of peanut butter to lube it up!

2. Glue remover. Have you ever tried to remove the label off of a can or jar and it leaves a residue of glue behind? Rub some peanut butter on the label glue and rub with a cloth – it works great!

3.  Use it to remove gum from hair.  Just rub some peanut butter into the gum and rub it between the palms of your hands for a minute or so. You should be able to wipe everything off with a cloth.

Not only will it remove gum from hair, but it will remove it from carpet and furniture.

4. Use it to clean leather furniture. Just rub peanut butter into any spots, then wipe away

5. Use it to make a bird feeder

Just tie a string around a pine cone (to use to hang it), spread peanut butter all over pine cone, then roll it in birdseed.

Although it has many uses, peanut butter is still best eaten!
